How do I make a good dating profile great

Creating  an online dating profile is probably one of the biggest barriers for people flirting with the idea of online dating. It can be a scary prospect – trying to make yourself sounds fabulous and interesting without being conceited or desperate. Looking at yourself objectively can be really hard and so it’s often a great idea to rope a friend in to help.

Here are some tips to get you started.

Avoid clichés – drinking wine in front of a roaring fire and sunset walks on the beach are classics. Instead think of something interesting that can spark a conversation

List your sociable hobbies – this can help people visualise how they could fit into your life, so focus on hobbies that could allow them to get involved, such as art museums, concerts etc, not being a bookworm or online crossword addict.

Choose action shot pictures – try and pick photos that give an insight into your personality and what you love to do… horse riding, playing musical instruments, go karting… but don’t exaggerate.

Stay positive – don’t state your dislikes and always be positive about yourself.

Be honest – don’t try and oversell yourself by exaggerating or plain lying on your profile just to get some interest; it’s the worst way to start a conversation.

Update regularly – keep your profile up to date with relevant information about yourself. If you have visited somewhere new recently, taken up a new hobby or read a new book, you can add to your profile and keep it fresh.

Check your grammar! Poor spelling and grammar can be a real turn off for some people, so double check your profile before you post.

Say  cheese – avoid pouty, moody pictures. A big smile is much more friendly and approachable than someone who looks like they take themselves too seriously!
